We are proud to announce that Fredrick Kioko Kilonzo, wildlife conservationist and member of Naturehub Collective Community Organisation, has been selected as one of the recipients of the highly competitive Murray Fowler International Conference Scholarship (MFICS) for 2025. This prestigious recognition, awarded by the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV), supports international wildlife veterinarians in attending the annual AAZV Conference—one of the foremost global gatherings dedicated to wild animal medicine.
Fredrick will represent Kenya and Naturehub Collective at the 57th Annual AAZV Conference, to be held in Kansas City, Missouri, later this year. The event brings together zoo veterinarians, pathologists, researchers, students, and conservation professionals from around the world to share insights, discuss emerging challenges, and advance the practice of wildlife health and welfare.
A Major Milestone in Wildlife Veterinary Medicine
“Being selected for the Murray Fowler Scholarship is a great honor, especially considering the number of applicants this year,” Fredrick shared. “With over 40 international applications—more than in previous years—this recognition highlights not just my personal growth in the wildlife health field, but also the incredible work we’re doing through Naturehub Collective here in Kenya.”
This recognition is more than an individual milestone—it reflects the growing impact of Naturehub Collective’s work in wildlife medicine and conservation. From reducing poisoning incidents affecting vultures in Laikipia, to supporting biodiversity monitoring and promoting indigenous-led conservation models, our mission has always centered on building a healthier, more sustainable relationship between communities and the natural world.
A Highly Competitive and Prestigious Award
The Murray Fowler International Scholarship is awarded to a select group of outstanding professionals from outside North America. It aims to foster global collaboration in the veterinary community, with a particular focus on applicants from developing countries who demonstrate a strong commitment to wildlife conservation and a need for financial assistance. The scholarship fund is made possible through contributions from AAZV members, the public, and the AAZV International Committee.
This year, the number of applications exceeded 40—more than in previous years—making the 2025 awards especially competitive. Fredrick’s selection speaks volumes about the quality and relevance of the work being led by Naturehub Collective in Kenya.

“I look forward to sharing our experiences from the field and learning from experts working in different ecological contexts,” Fredrick added. “This is a chance to bring world-class veterinary knowledge back home and use it to benefit our wildlife, our communities, and our shared future.”
